Which List do I use:

jPOS.org has two main mailing lists:

The majority of users asking specific questions about how to use jPOS should use jpos-users. The jpos-dev list is reserved for jpos-org developers for feature requests, bugs, patches and the like - again you will mostly want to use the jpos-users list.

Steps to perform before posting

1) Is jPOS the correct project? Check and make sure jPOS.org is the project you are looking for: JavaPOS != jPOS.org - these are separate and distinct projects.

2) Search the mailing-list archives. Chances are that someone else has already asked the same question or a similar question and there is a thread of discussion related that may assist you

[Hint] Each of these has handy search features. Also remember that Google (and other fine search engines) are your friends.

3) Review the jPOS JavaDoc's jPOS API Documentation They list every package, class, and method of the jPOS codebase, and their return values as well as arguments.

4) Browse and review the jPOS source code to see how jPOS works:

5) Purchase the jPOS programmers guide and read it, also read the jPOS-EE Manual

6) If you still have a question - read How To Ask Questions The Smart Way before posting, to provide a detailed question, while you question might make sense to you, someone else looking at it for the first time may not have the same background information, or know what you are trying to accomplish.

7) Please do not send production data to the list! including but not limited to unmasked card numbers, PIN blocks, CVV, CVV2, Track Data, etc.

8) Please do not 'publish' any copyrighted documents to the list! quoting small portions from a specification might be acceptable (with the owner), but you must take full responsibility for seeking permission *before* posting.

9) Please don't make job postings or requests for such, there are many sites dedicated to the art of finding and providing gainful employment.

10) Please start the subject of any postings only tenuously linked to jPOS with [OT], so that people can readily and safely choose to ignore them.

11) Be respectful to the jPOS.org project and its license : Be familiar with jPOS license -- It is discouraging to see java package names in emails asking for help that show "com.yourGreedyCompany.PaymentSystem.*" if you are not a commercial license holder.
